J.C. "BUDDY" MILLWOOD

Tupelo - J.C. "Buddy" Millwood, 76, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at his residence after a brief illness. A Lee County native, he was born March 16, 1931 to the late Wesco and Pearlie Adams Millwood. A graduate of Tupelo High School, he then went on to Itawamba Community College where he earned his associates degree in electrical engineering. He retired after 30 years of service at Midsouth Packer which later became Southern Bell Foods. After his retirement, he worked for Securitos and Day Detectectives. He also worked at the Mall at Barnes Crossing in housekeeping where he was named Employee of the Year in 1992. He served as past president of the East Heights CB Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of Northeast Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Ministers Bryan Gillespie, Leon Willis, Earl Mitchell, and Jim Allen officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Mary Alice Smith Millwood of Tupelo; three daughters, Beverly Gillespie and husband, Tim, of Blue Springs, Diane Hill and husband James (Sonny), of Tupelo, and Melissa Shackleford and husband, Ricky, of Mooreville; one brother, Ed Millwood and wife, Mary Nell, of Tupelo; three grandsons, Bryan Gillespie, Casey Gillespie, and Chris Hinds; nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Dale Rushing, Derick Rushing, David Rushing, Donnie Wright, Gene Davis, James Smith.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Smith, Gary Dickerson, Wade Arnold, Butch Simmons, and the Deacons and Elders of Northeast Church of Christ, Scott Doles, Jim Allen, Jackie Clayton, Dr. Jimmy Johnson, Tim Smith and Kelly Mims.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
