Tupelo--Norman E. Barnes, 74, Died Monday, December 29, 2008 at his residence after a brief illness. A native of Waltham, Mass., he was born May 31, 1934 to Eugene L. and Ella Morey Barnes. A US navy veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict on the destroyer, the USS Waldron. He was a longtime resident of Boston, Mass. where he was employed by United Lithograph. He retired in 1994 and moved to Tupelo in 1996 where he resided the past 12 years. While living in Massachusetts, he was a longtime member of the Elks Club in Tewesbury, Mass. An avid pool player, he also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Beverly Barnes; five children, James and Richard Barnes, both of Tupelo, Scott Barnes of the Auburn Community, Stephen Barnes of Toronto, Canada, and Billy Beliveau of Michigan; two step-children, Kenneth Herbert and Michelle Clay of Stevensville, Mich.; one sister, Lois Anderson of Methuen, Mass.; two brothers, Donald Barnes of West Dennis, Mass. and Richard Barnes of Boulder City, Nevada; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
