Norma Wicker
Norma Jean Wicker, 96, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2025. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska on April 30, 1928. She married Ken Wicker in January of 1955 and traveled the world with him as an Air Force wife until they retired to Tupelo in 1970.
She was a tireless volunteer at First Baptist Church in Tupelo, where she prepared the meals on Wednesday nights as well as for funerals and special occasions for more than 35 years. She helped raise generations of children in the church nursery and in Acteens where she was known as “Aunt Norma,” “Mimi,” and “Mama Wicker”.
She is survived by her husband, Ken Wicker, her children, Tom Wicker (Semmie), Jim Wicker (Bonnie), and Kathy Wicker Terry (Jeff); grandchildren Drake Terry, Sarah Darden and Abby Christian, great grandchildren Merryn, Hollis and Salem Darden, and Annalee and Lucy Christian; as well as special nieces and nephew Margaret Wicker McPhillips, Caroline Wicker Sims and McDaniel Wicker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Arthur and Evelyn Pierce Kaneft, her mother-in-law Ora Wiley Wicker, and her “Aunt Kack” Katherine Jean Meehan.
Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Tupelo at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, with the Rev. Ricky Young officiating. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow services at McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat, Mississippi. Pegues Funeral Directors is honored to be in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Roger Brown, Jeff Cox, Phil Daughdrill, Jack McFerrin, Paul Poland and McDaniel Wicker.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Landmark Lifestyles for the care and compassion given to Norma toward the end of her life, as well as to special caregivers Celia Ward and Bobbie Jean Barr.
