Norma Grace Mack
Tupelo- Norma Grace McCarley Mack, 73, was called home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 after a brief illness. She was born in Marion County, Alabama April 19, 1944 to Argie and Shelby McCarley. In 1952, she and her family moved to Defiance, Ohio. Norma was a 1962 graduate of Defiance High School and attended Blue Mountain College in Blue Mountain, Mississippi from 1963-1968 before returning to Ohio. She taught first grade at Farmer Elementary School for three years and she worked for Williams County Human Services for 25 years before her retirement. She had also worked occasionally for Yellow Freight Trucking. After retirement, she moved to Tupelo to be closer to family. Once she was settled in Tupelo, she worked as a data entry clerk for Lift, Inc. Head Start.
She was a charter member of Second Baptist Church in Defiance. She played the piano for several starter Mission Churches in the area as well as her home church. She loved to sing harmony especially to her favorite song "In the Garden". Norma spent her summers working missions teaching Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano, completing crossword puzzles, watching nature programs and Disney movies and connecting with friends and family through Facebook and text messages.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Mack Welch of St. Augustine, Florida and Holly Mack Martin of Tupelo; one son, Jason Mack of Tupelo; three sisters, Reba Bourque of Tupelo, Shirley Hicks and her husband, Jerry of Ney, Ohio and JoAnn Kelly of Tupelo; five grandchildren, Jessy Rydberg and her husband, Ernie, and Brandi Welch of Orlando, Florida, Charlie Williams and McCarley Jo Martin of Tupelo, and Brenna Mack of Minnesota; two great-grandchildren, Cody and Austin Rydberg of Orlando; and many neices and nephews from Ohio, Georgia and Mississippi.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John Elice and R.V.; and one sister, Marie McCarley Ward.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Lowell Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Chesterville Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2018 at W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors, Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Kelly, II, Jeremy Kelly, Gary Chunn, Mark Niswonger, Charlie Williams and Jason Davis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Simmons, David Simmons, Eddie Ward and Kenneth Hicks.
