Hiram, Ga.Nona Shumpert, 95, died Thursday, July 23, 2009 At Wellstar Paulding Nursing Center in Dallas, Georgia, after a short illness where she lived the past several years. She was born June 14, 1914 in Itawamba County to the late Will and Ada Loden Lindsey. She was married to Robert L. (Shorty) Shumpert August 10, 1946 who died in 1974. She lived many years in Tupelo before moving to Amory where she lived with her sister, Blanch Wiygul. She then moved to Hiram, Georgia to be near her granddaughter, Patrice Gee (Benny) and family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Amory and attended First Baptist Church of Dallas, Ga.
Stateroom services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at W. E. Pegues with Rev. Glyn Wiygul officiating. Burial will be at Tupelo Memorial Park.
She is survived by her son, Charles M. Shumpert of Sharpsburg, Ga.; her grandchildren Patrice Gee (Benny) of Hiram, Ga.; Robert C. Shumpert (Sandra) of Sharpsburg. Ga. Teresa Shumpert of Sharpsburg, Ga.; her nieces Virginia Harris (Doyle) of Amory, Jewel Faulkner (Jolly)and Judy Weaver of Splunge; a nephew, Bob Wiygul of Amory; seven great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren and 3 step great-great grandchildren, all of Mooreville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Mitchell Shumpert; her second husband, Robert L. Shumpert; her sister, Blanch Wiygul; her brother, Shellie Lindsey; a daughter-in-law, Pat Shumpert, a grandson, Michael Shumpert, her step son, R. Madison Shumpert; a step-granddaughter, Pam Estes; and a great grandson, Jacob Metlzer.
Pallbearers will be Terry Faulkner, Barry Faulkner, Tony Weaver, Greg Harris, Blake Harris, and Aaron Gee.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
