Natalie Dunn

February 20, 1921 — November 17, 2014

Natalie Mary Anne Blacksher Dunn, 93, died in Tupelo, Mississippi, on November 17, 2014, after a long and blessed life surrounded by her family and friends. Mrs. Dunn was born in Biloxi, Mississippi, on February 20, 1921, to Mr. and Mrs. David Frederick Blacksher (Lucille Fox). After graduating from Biloxi High School Mrs. Dunn joined Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company in Biloxi where she met the love and friend of her life, Walton B. Dunn, Sr. of Christmasville, Tennessee. They were married on December 25, 1941, and were happily married for almost 69 years before his death on October 4, 2010. Mrs. Dunn devoted her life to her husband, children, their families, extended family and friends. She, like her husband, was young of heart through out her life. Her quick wit and sense of humor surprised many of a much younger age. Mrs. Dunn was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Tupelo, Mississippi. A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Dunn at 4:30 p.m. on November 17, 2014, at Pegues Funeral Home followed by burial next to her husband, Walton B. Dunn, Sr. in Lee Memorial Park, Verona, Mississippi. When her sons were growing up Mrs. Dunn taught both children and youth Sunday School and Training Union. She also was a member of her church's WMU and actively served on the Ladies Visitation Committee visiting the sick and shut-ins each week. Mrs. Dunn assisted with the Children's Bible Drills and was a volunteer choir mother. She loved people of all ages, but her heart was always with children and youth. Mrs. Dunn is survived by sons, Walton B. Dunn, Jr. (Betty Gayle), granddaughter Melissa Sullivan (Heath) and great grandchildren Tyler, Sarah Ashley and Audrey Elizabeth Sullivan, all of Saltillo, Mississippi; W. David Dunn (Cherry Watkins) of Columbus, Mississippi, granddaughter Rachel B. Watkins (Larry Slutzky) and great grandchildren Anna Frances Julian and Henry Julian of Athens, Georgia, granddaughter, Emily W. Ashbury (Keith) and great grandchildren Luke Ashbury and Andrew Ashbury of Virginia Beach, Virginia; son, Daryl W. Dunn (Allison) and grandchildren Austin Dunn, Amber Dunn and Alex Dunn of Marietta, Georgia; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and other family members. The family is grateful and eternally indebted to the caregivers that provided Mrs. Dunn loving care over the past few years. Mrs. Dunn's sons want to especially thank Cindy Jones and Angela Estes for their superb care and love given to Mrs. Dunn during her last illness. Pall Bearers are Austin Dunn, Alex Dunn, Keith Ashbury, Billy Johnson, Heath Sullivan, Charles McArthur and Fred Haise. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, PO 1008, Tupelo, Mississippi 38802.
