NAOMI BARNES Mooreville - Naomi Barnes, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 26, 2013, after an extended illness. Naomi was born in Lee County on September 21, 1933, to Connie and Hazel Mitchell. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Naomi enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren that she adored. Working in her flower garden, faithfully studying the word of God and attending church services were among her favorite hobbies and activities. Naomi loved her church family dearly and was a member of the Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy and attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Fulton. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Tim Winters and Rev. Jeremy Lincoln officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Union Grove Cemetery in Mooreville. Naomi's survivors include her beloved husband of sixty years, James Barnes, Sr.; one son, Rolon Barnes (Jan); two grandchildren, Andria and Andrew Barnes all of Mooreville; two brothers, Jack Mitchell (Judy) of Littleville, Alabama and Harvey Mitchell of Mooreville; three sisters-in-law, Ann Sheffield of Atlanta, Georgia, Linda Mitchell and Jane Cockrell both of Mooreville; several nieces and nephews. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, Connie and Hazel Mitchell; one daughter, Sarah Dean Barnes; one brother, Joel Mitchell. Her pallbearers will be Mike T. Mitchell, Michael J. Mitchell, Tim Foster, Jack Gunter, Carlton Green and Billie Jo Ewing. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Jackson, Bo Young, Clarence Foster, Jeff Cockrell, Archie Opiela and Paul Coggins. The family will receive friends from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at the funeral home.
