Murray Moore

July 2, 1925 — May 2, 2010

Tupelo - Robert Murray Moore, Sr., 84, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a sudden illness. A North Mississippi native, he was born July 2, 1925 in the Cedar Hill Community in North Lee County to Perry and Mellie Haygood Moore. He was a United States Coast Guard veteran of World War II, having served on a Coast Guard cutter during the Allied invasion at Normandy and later served on the USS General Brewster. He was a longtime salesman with Detco Industries based in Conway Arkansas working a territory which included both North Alabama and North Mississippi. He loved growing flowers and vegetables. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Holloman-Covenant Sunday School Class.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Ray and Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lavenia Easterling Moore of Tupelo; one daughter, Debbie McGehee (Richard) of Belden; two sons, Bob Moore (Ginny) of Colleyville, Texas, and Jim Moore (Cathy) of Southlake, Texas; six granddaughters, Barry Schuster (Eric) of Greenville, Cheslee Moore of Memphis, Virginia Moore of Southlake, Clara Moore of Southlake, Mellie McGehee of Belden, Rachel Moore of Colleyville; five grandsons, Branton Moore of London, England, Easlin Moore of New York City, New York, Evan Moore on North Hollywood, California, Curtis McGehee of Belden, and Adam Moore of Colleyville; two great grandsons, Ben and William Schuster of Greenville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Dr. Bill Moore; and one sister, Eunice Hamilton.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 at the funeral home.
