Morie Bass

Palmetto Community " Morie Gilmore Bass, 77, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007, at her residence after an extended illness. A Lee County native, she was born September 14, 1930 to the late Eddie Jacob and Evalena McMahan Gilmore. She married Thomas Bass in 1946 and they lived in Memphis for 36 years, returning to Palmetto after her husband's retirement in 1985. She was devoted to her family and a longtime member of Valley Grove Baptist Church.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Valley Grove Baptist Church with Bro. John Shackleford and Dr. Jim Alford officiating. Burial will be in Valley Grove Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Marie Wiggins and husband, Chuck, of Tupelo; a son, Danny Bass and wife, Myra, of Tupelo; a sister, Margurie G. Rogers and husband, J.C., of Tupelo; five grandchildren, Thomas W. Wiggins and wife, Emily of Algoma, Noah D. Bass and wife, Tanya, of Saltillo, Laura M. Russell and husband, Stacy, of Pontotoc, Jeremy L. Bass and wife, Cindy, of Pontotoc, and Jody B. Bass and wife, Jennifer, of Dorsey; six great-grandchildren, Carley, Marissa, Macey, Evalena, Jake, and one future great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Thomas H. Bass; one sister, Arlene Roberts; and two brothers, Lonnie Lee Gilmore and eddie Carl Gilmore.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Thomas Wiggins, Noah Bass, Jeremy Bass, and Jody Bass, her grandson-in-law Stacy Russell, and her nephew, Eddie Rogers.

All visitation will be at the church 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. until service time Sunday.
