Molly Thomas Thompson

Molly Thomas Thompson, a life long native of Tupelo, was ushered into heaven to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 after a long, hard fought battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Molly was born October 10, 1939 to James Murphy and Shirley Leake Thomas. She graduated from Tupelo High School in 1957 then attended Vanderbilt University and The University of Mississippi. She retired from TRI after a very successful 20 year career as a real estate agent. Earlier in life, she was a preschool teacher and then director of The Calvary Baptist Preschool Program. In fact, she was still called “Ms. Molly” by many in the community. Molly was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for many years in the children’s, junior high, and young adults ministries. She also served on numerous church committees.
Molly was a life member and past president of the Tupelo Junior Auxiliary. Additionally, she served on The Salvation Army board and was a member of The Community Development Foundation. Even though she was busy working and serving in the community, she always made time for her many friends and family, making everyone she was around feel special. Molly’s exuberant personality served her well both personally and professionally.
Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2018 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church with her nephew, Tom Washburn officiating.
A private family graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery prior to the memorial service.
Survivors include her children, Dr. Robert Fulton Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Julie of Tupelo, Susan Thompson Madden and her husband, Jay of Memphis, Tennessee and James Murphy Thompson of Franklin, Tennessee; one sister, Sue Thomas Washburn and her husband, Heywood of Tupelo; and five grandchildren, Memory, Stuart and John Madden and Robert and Caroline Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Calvary Baptist Church at 501 West Main Street, Tupelo, MS 38804 or The Salvation Army of Tupelo at 527 Carnation Street, Tupelo, MS 38804.
