Milton Sheffield

Milton Sheffield   Tupelo, formerly of Ballardsville Community - Floyd Milton Sheffield, 91, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2016, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. He was born October 24, 1924, to Audie Lee and Annie Bailey Sheffield. In his early life he lived in Ballardsville Community and was a member of Ballardsville Baptist Church where he was very active and served as a Deacon until he moved to Tupelo. He married the former Jewel Cole in 1943 and they were married for 68 years until her passing in April of 2012. A World War II Veteran, Milton served his country in the United States Army for four years and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was in the Robert E. Lee Masonic Lodge #156 as a 32nd Degree Mason. Milton retired after 35 years at Hancock Textile Company. He loved working with wood and making furniture, including bedroom suits and a grandfather clock that he passed down to his family. Milton loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.   Survivors include his daughters, Brenda Gammill, Sherry McCarty (Jim), Kathy Fowler all of Tupelo; grandchildren, Matt McCarty (Dawn), Cole McCarty (Megan), Natalie Nichols all of Tupelo; great-grandchildren, Cade, Bay, Mary-Leighton and Olivia McCarty, Austin Savage, Addison and Avery Nichols; sister-in-law, Joyce Burke (Dennis) of Greencastle, Pennsylvania; brothers-in-law, Jerry Cole (Cindy) of West Bend, Wisconsin and John Cole (Sandy) of New Holstine, Wisconsin.   He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sons-in-law, John Gammill and John Fowler; sister, Lurine McTune; father and mother-in-law, Dewey and Emma Lee Cole; sister-in-law, June Freeman (Delbert); brothers-in-law, Dewey Cole, Jr. (Imogine) and Billy Cole (Anne).   Visitation will be from noon until service time Friday, June 24, 2016, and services will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Robert Garland officiating. Burial will be in Gilvo Cemetery.   Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Robert E.
