Tupelo - Milton Ray Post, 79, died Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. A Lee County native and lifelong resident, he was born July 29, 1931, to Robert Roy and Jimmie Corine Crider Post. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was responsible for guarding President Eisenhower during his visit with the troops, receiving a personal note of thanks from the President. He was the owner and operator of Post Sand and Gravel for many years and enjoyed camping, fishing and going to flea markets. During his working years, he was a C.B. raido enthusiast and went by the handle, Sand Man. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Plantersville where he served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, served on many committees and ministries including the Visitation and Jail Ministries. He was also a Gideon.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Danny Balint officiating. Burial will be at Priceville Cemetery
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Annette Graham Post of Plantersville; his son, Robert Douglas "Rob" Post (Kimberly Leigh) of Tupelo; his granddaughter, Charleigh Madison Post of Tupelo; one sister, Brenda Bourland (Edsil) of Huntsville, Ala.; one brother, Robert Post (Sandra) of Tupelo; two brothers-in-law, Sonny Graham (Peggy) of Saltillo and Bill Graham (Sherry) of Wacco, Tex.; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Wages (Mancel) of Palmetto and Brenda Ferguson (James) of Grenada.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Stewart Ray Post; a sister-in-law, Maxine Gilliam and her husband, Clay.
Pallbearers will be The Deacons of First Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
