MILDRED PRATHER

Mildred McCarthy Prather, 82, passed away Tuesday July 31, 2012, after a brief illness at the Baptist Memorial Hospital?Union County in New Albany, Mississippi.

Ms. Prather, the daughter of the late John Thomas McCarthy and the late Maudie McCarthy, was bon August 1, 1929 in Saltillo, Mississippi. She was a graduate of Northeast Mississippi Community College (AA), Mississippi State University (BA), and the University of Mississippi (M Ed). Ms. Prather taught school for more than 40 years, the majority of those with the Tupelo City Schools. She was one of the original members of the West Main Church of Christ in Tupelo.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul T. Prather, and survived by her two sons, Paul E. Prather (Mandy) of Memphis and David Brent Prather (Viki) of Tupelo, and by four grandchildren: David Prather (Eva) of St. Ignatius, Montana; Brian Prather (Mary) of Cadiz, Kentucky; Michelle Christian Parmer (Daniel) and Justin Prather (Kayla), both of Tupelo. She is also survived by one great granddaughter.

A visitation will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. and continue Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at W. E. Pegues Funeral Home, 535 W Jefferson St, Tupelo, MS 38804.

Services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the Arthritis Foundation Mississippi Chapter, 731 Avignon Road, Ste. 2, Ridgeland, MS 39157, the Sunnybrook Children?s Home, 222 Sunnybrook Road, Ridgeland, MS 39157 or a charity of the donor?s choice.
