MILDRED McELROY MILDRED McELROY Tupelo - Mildred Webb McElroy, 95, died Thursday, July 12, 2012, at the Green Houses at Traceway. A native of Richland, Georgia, she was born to Ralph and Beulah Webb in 1916, and was a graduate of Richland High School and Freeman's Business College. After moving to Tupelo in 1967, she earned a master's degree from the University of Mississippi, and was employed by the Tupelo Public Schools for 10 years. She was married to Lt. Col. James Thomas McElroy for 25 years before his death in Guam in June 1968. As the wife of a military officer, she traveled widely in this country and abroad. After her retirement, she volunteered as a Gray Lady at North Mississippi Medical Center, and worked for many years as a volunteer at Lee County Library. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tupelo. She was a member of the Peripatetic Club, and was an avid reader through her club and through her volunteer work at the library. She enjoyed travel, swimming, playing bridge, and golf. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Survivors include three daughters, Marianne Maganano (Milo) of La Quinto, California, Sarah Ghantous (Salim) of Yanbu, Saudi Arabia and Margaret Vandenberghe of Newport Beach, California; one brother, Dr. Gill Webb (Ann) of Tampa, Florida; her grandchildren, Kelly Platt of Portland, Oregon, J. D. Platt (Marianne) of Bend, Oregon, Laura Ghantous Spratte (David) of Raleigh, North Carolina and Ali Ghantous also of Raleigh, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband.
