Mildred Gillentine

Mildred Gillentine Tupelo- Mildred Clayton Gillentine, 98, passed away, Monday, July 7, 2014 in her residence at The Griffis House, Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo, Mississippi. A Lee County native, she was a life-long resident of Tupelo. Mildred was born December 26, 1915 to King Soloman and Annie Lou Morrison Clayton. She was a Licensed Cosmetologist for 10 years and former owner of The Nell-Ann Dress Shops. She was a proud member of The Community Development Foundation, serving on the Retail Trade Council and President of the Downtown Mall Association. From 1975-1979, she served on the Mississippi Merit Council in Jackson, Mississippi. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher & Member of the Personnel Committee. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Terry Cutrer and Rev. Tom Sumrall officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Nanney and husband, Phil, of New Albany; son-in-law, Freddie White, and wife, Wanda, of Guntown; six grandchildren, Mark White of Guntown, Dana Hankins and husband, Mark, of Mooreville, Marla Gray and husband, Michael, of Baldwyn, Anna Moore and husband, Brandon, of Tupelo, Mary Beth Muncie and husband, Jim, of New Albany and Phillip Nanney and wife, Jessica, of New Albany; eleven great-grandchildren, Molly, Zach and Hayden White of Guntown, Clayton and Garrett Gray of Baldwyn, Carly Talbott of Mooreville, Kaylee Beth and Wesley Moore both of Tupelo, Arden and Bristol Nanney and Maggie Grace Muncie all of New Albany. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ottis Gillentine; daughter, Mildred Ann White; sister, Ruby Nell Richey; her parents, King Soloman and Annie Lou Morrison Clayton and seven brothers, Homer, Ronald, Burckle, Ted, K.S, Jr., Robert and Earl Clayton. Pallbearers will be Raymond Clayton, Stephen Clayton, Harry Collins, David Van Gillentine, Michael Gray, Mark Hankins, Brandon Moore, Jim Muncie and David Wigginton. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 501 W Main St., Tupelo, MS, 38804, or to the Sunshine Fund of the Mitchell Center at Traceway Retirement Community, 2800 W. Main St., Tupelo, MS, 38801.
