MICHAEL LAMBERT
Saltillo - Michael "Captain Wormy" Lambert, 62, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at his home in Saltillo after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 25, 1943, in Corinth to Samuel Lee Lambert and Audrey Leathers Lambert, who preceded him in death. He retired from service to his country after 22 years - 11 years with the U.S. Army and 11 years with the National Guard. He was a staff sergeant E6 and served two tours in Vietnam with the Dixie Thunder-88. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (1st & WD Award), two overseas bars, Vietnam Service Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a retired captain with the Tupelo Fire Department with 22 years of service. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He attended Greenwood Baptist Church. He loved being a father and husband.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with the Rev. Gary O'Neal officiating. Burial will full military honors will be at Kirkville Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mary Lambert of Saltillo; two daughters, Cheryl Sheffield and husband, Billy Jr., of Dorsey and Stacy Harlow and husband, Ken, of the Peaceful Valley community; one sister, Sammie K. Walker of Nunnelly, Tenn.; one brother, Patrick L. Lambert of Dearborn, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Candace Ainesworte and husband, Mark, of Jackson, and Leslie Sheffield, Tabitha Sheffield, "Cotton" Sheffield, Lauren Harlow, Kinlee Harlow and Amber Harlow; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Ki Ainesworte and Kinnley River Ainesworte; a special niece, Deanna Noe and husband, Leon, of Whitehouse, Tenn.
Pallbearers will be members of the Military Honor Guard.
Honorary pallbearers will be David Pannell, Ray Smith, Gerald Wade, Carl White, Gary McBrayer and Tommy Plunket.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today.
