Memory Benn "Mimi" Pegues

August 8, 1953 — June 22, 2014

Mimi Pegues Tupelo - On June 22, 2014, Memory Benn "Mimi" Pegues, 60, joined her beloved daughter and parents in a heavenly reunion. A native and lifelong resident of Tupelo, she was born August 8, 1953, to J. R. and Clara Mae Benn Pegues. Mimi passed away due to complications from an aneurysm that had ruptured two weeks earlier. Both her brother and his wife were with Mimi in her final moments. Mimi was a lifelong member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday School Secretary for more than a decade. Mimi was committed to recycling and, in her final gift, was true to her commitment to re-use and recycle by donating her organs so that others could benefit from them in life. She was an avid card player and will be sorely missed by her "card group." Mimi was a 1971 graduate of Tupelo High School, a Miss Tupelo contestant in 1972, and attended Mississippi State University. Her business career included roles at the Federal Land Bank, as office manager for Dr. Robert Kennedy, and, most recently, as Administrative Assistant at PageAngle& Associates, CPA. Services will be 11 A.M. Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Bryant Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. She is survived by her brother, John Reed "J" Pegues III, his wife, Maura Sylvester, of New Orleans, LA; nieces, Emma, Siena, and Alexa Pegues all of New Orleans, LA; and a step-daughter, Amy Eifling; along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mimi was preceded in death by her daughter Memory Edwards; her parents, J. R. and Clara Mae Pegues, and her grandparents, John Reed Pegues, Sr. and Victoria Pittman Pegues, and Kent Benn and Mabel Phillips Benn. Pallbearers will be Fred Pitts, Gregg Kennedy, Caveti Otis, Mike Sheffield, David Franks and Judd Vance. Visitation will be 4 - 7 P.M. Friday, June 27, 2014, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Associations at www.alz.org .
