MELVIN D. BURT Tupelo - Melvin Douglas Burt, 66, passed away Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at his home. He was born November 16, 1947 to Douglas and Claudia Ruth Burt. Melvin was a United States Navy veteran. He enjoyed spending time with his family and reading. He spent a lot of time on his computer, talking to friends, reading and researching. He had a love of animals, especially cats. Services with military honors will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors. Graveside to follow at Tupelo Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Brenda Wolfe Burt; two children, Stephen Burt and Summer Riley (Tyler) all of Tupelo; three grandchildren, Shelbi Lofton, Colbie Vaughn and Hunter Vaughn; one sister, Theresa Mullican (Judson) of Columbus, Ga. and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Wolfe of Meridian. He was preceded in death by his parents; aunts; uncles and grandparents. Visitation will be 12 - 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2014, W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
