Tupelo—Melissa Ann Phillips Davis, 72, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 at Tupelo Nursing and Rehab after a lengthy illness. She was born July 13, 1948 in Mobile, Alabama, the daughter of Valmer E. and Archevia M. Christian Phillips. Melissa grew up in Vernon, Alabama where she graduated from high School. Most of her adult life was spent in Columbus, Miss. working as a secretary for Lowndes Funeral Home. Melissa was a member of the First Baptist Church of Columbus.
She leaves behind her daughter, Lisa Noonan of Mooreville, Miss.; two grandchildren, Charles Zachary Graves and Lindsey Danielle Sanford; great-grandson, Camden Thomas Sanford; her sister, Valerie Perkins of Caledonia, Miss.; two brothers, Eric (Barbara) of Pelham, Ala. and Ricky Phillips of Orlando, Fla.; and a dear friend, Paul Brown of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Charles Edward Hawkins, Jr.
Due to the current health crisis, the family will honor her memory with a private family service at a later date. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
