Tupelo -Maxine Simmons Sparks, 78, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born January 24, 1939, to Erskin and Berta Mae Smitherman Simmons. Maxine was a resident of Old Union Community for the majority of her life and graduated from Shannon High School in 1957. On September 30, 1977, she married Dalton Sparks. She worked as a reconcilement clerk for BancorpSouth for over twenty-eight years. Maxine was also an avid seamstress who made most of the clothes her children wore growing up. She loved traveling with her husband and the Sparks Family Bluegrass Group and enjoyed gardening and making homemade soups. She was member of Old Union Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Survivors include her husband of forty years, Dalton Sparks; three daughters, Venetia Mallory (Jacob Jr), Derinda Reid (Frank Jr) all of the Old Union Community, Judy Humphries (Steve) of Belmont; one sister, Betty Parker (James) of Tupelo; Grandchildren, Christopher Mallory, Lauren Mallory and fiancé Issac Berry, William Reid (Susan), Kaylan Reid and fiancé Clay Holdiness, Kristen Reid, Amy Larison (Joe), Adam Humphries (Stephanie), Josh Sparks (Terah), Becky Luker (Mark), Caleb Sparks and 10 great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Aileen Gober; two brothers, Pete and Bob Simmons and two step-sons Tim and Danny Sparks.
Services will be 3:30 pm Saturday, December 16, 2017, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Bob O'Neal and Bro. Josh Sparks officiating.
Pallbearers will be Adam Humphries, Frank Reid Jr., Jacob Mallory Jr., William Reid, Christopher Mallory, Mark Floyd and Caleb Sparks.
