Maurine Darnell, age 86, died early Thursday morning, Jan. 24, 2008. Maurine was a longtime resident of Memphis, TN. Maurine was born August 13,1921 in Holcut, Mississippi. Age didn't stop this hairdresser from wanting to go to work everyday. Even after retirement, Maurine would call work every day to see if she could be of assistance. She treasured her job and did it well. She was a dedicated member of Audubon Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. She was an avid seamstress and known for her coconut cake. Maurine loved sweets of any kind.

She is survived by sister Bernestine Knight of Corinth, MS; niece Jo Ann Keith of Little Rock, AR; nephew Kenneth R. Keith and his wife Corinne of Tupelo, MS; nephew John Richard Keith of Tupelo, MS and niece Becky Dalton and husband Jeff of Grenada, MS. Brenda Brown and Danny Bumpas of Alabama. Other family members are Lisa Baggett and Brian Keith.

She was preceded in death by her first husband John Ray, who was killed in the military. Also her second husband, Forrest Darnell of Memphis, TN, who was killed while employed with Greyhound Bus Company; her sister Francis Bumpus from Alabama; her sister Vestal Kilcrease from Baker, LA; her half brother Lester Holder from Iuka, MS; her sister Uneeda Keith of Belden, MS; her neice Phyllis Killigrew of Long Beach, MS.

The family is comforted to know that Aunt Maurine is finally home where she has longed to be, at the side of Jesus and her loved ones in heaven, who have missed her for years. Her work is done here on earth.

The family will be at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo, MS. for visitation at 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service following at 12:00 p.m. She will be buried alongside her husband, Forrest at 3:00 p.m. at Memphis Memory Gardens in Memphis, TN.
