MAUDIE MAE BRENTS TUPELO - Maudie Mae Brents, 90, died January 4, 2013, at her daughter's home in Lafayette, Tennessee, after a short illness. A Mississippi native, she was born November 15, 1922 in the Ratliff Community in Itawamba County, to Maggie Mae Briggman and Alva Marshall Whitehead. At the age of seven she moved to live with her foster parents Odie and Lavada Gunter Franks. She was a retired factory seamstress. She enjoyed reading, sewing, crocheting, working with her flowers in the yard and cooking. She was especially known for her potato salad and chocolate pie. Maudie is a member of East Main Church of Christ in Tupelo. A celebration of life service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with her grandson Rev. Thomas G. Jennings officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery near Okolona. W. E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo is in charge of arrangements. Survivors include her daughters, Ruby and husband, Bobby Jolly of West Point, Margaret and husband, David Carter of Hendersonville, TN, Alice Jennings of Tupelo, Linda and husband, Jim Foster of Lafayette, TN; sons Earl Brents and wife Donna of Blue Ridge, TX, and Harvey Brents and wife Tammy of Wagerville, AL; two sisters, Jane Roberts and Lois Russell both of Tupelo; eighteen grandchildren; forty-two great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Brents; one daughter Annette Brents; her parents; her brothers; Tommy and Johnny Ray Franks and Audie Morgan, J. W. and Claudie Whitehead. Pallbearers will be her grandson's: David Carter Jr, Brian Christopher, John Whisman, Bobby Jolly, Jessie Glatt, Kenny Glatt, Scott Corner, Daylin O'Bryan, Jeremy Thibault, and Matt Sullivan. Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1800 West Main, Box 1, Tupelo, MS 38801.
