Maude Marie Parker Cates
Nettleton - Maude Marie Parker Cates, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Traceway Retirement Community. She was born June 11, 1924, to Ralph and Ada Belle Herring. A caregiver by nature, Maude devoted her life to caring for those she loved. She enjoyed being outdoors working in her garden and loved spending time with her family who loving referred to her as "Granny". In her later years, she attended Limestone Baptist Church in Nettleton.
Survivors include two children, Carolyn Joan Merriman of Nettleton and William Lynn Parker of Bay Springs; eight grandchildren, Teresa Nicholson and her husband, Darel of Nettleton, Brian McCord and his wife, Cindy of Tupelo, Tammy Parker Brooks and her husband, Oscar of Arlington, Tennessee, Belinda Foster of Nettleton, Angie Brooks and her husband, Tim of Crestview, Florida, Vikki Jo Easterling and her husband, Blake of Montrose, Melissa Evette "Missy" Hall and her husband, Robby of Nettleton and Barry Wayne Parker and his wife, Jennifer of Nettleton; 20 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Devan, Anna, Olivia, Peyton, John Luke, Lee, Chase, Alexandra, Lee, Aaron, Daniel, Joshua, Brennan, Cayson, Olivia, Austin, Lauren, Brady and Jolie; eight great-great-grandchildren; one special friend, Jessie Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Charles Wayne Parker who passed away November 5, 1991; husbands, John Wayne Parker and David Cates; and five brothers, James Herring and his wife, Lois, Leon Herring and his wife, Joyce, Allen Herring and his wife, Cleo, William Herring and his wife, Ruth and Raymond Herring.
Visitation will be 10 until 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Graveside services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Tupelo Memorial Park with Rev. Chris McCord officiating. In the event of inclement weather, services will be held at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be John Luke McCord, Peyton McCord, Hunter Richardson, Austin Hall and Zack Parker.
Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
