FLORENCE MAXEY Evergreen - Mattie Florence Maxey, 78, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A Nettleton native, she was born July 4, 1934 to Tulus and Carrie Fowler Bishop. She was an accomplished guiterist and loved singing. Her family was very special to her and she loved cooking and caring for them. She was a retired seamstress from the garment industry. She also loved tending her flower gardens and especially her "big red rose bush". She was a member of Evergreen Church of the Lord Jesus Christ. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 5, 2013 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. William Kirkman and Rev. Steve Denton officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery near Nettleton. Survivors include her husband of nearly 59 years, Robert Maxey of the Evergreen Community; two daughters, Sharon Kisor (David) of Guntown and Gloria Hester of the Auburn Community; one son, Rev. Bobby Maxey (Brenda) of Jackson, Tenn.; two sisters, Gerald Dean McKay (Jerry) of Pontotoc, and Delaine Jones (J.J.) of Booneville; one brother, Hubert Bishop (Lavendar) of the Evergreen Cmmunity; five grandchildren, Delisa Sheffield, TeTo Hester, Chanda Goff (Tracy), Angie Russell (Joseph) and Jerius Maxey (Alisha); and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Pallbearers will be Jerius Maxey, TeTo Hester, Tracy Goff, Norman Mattox, Curtis Roberts, and Mike McCollum. Honorary pallbearers will be J. C. Killough, James Maxey, and Jerry McKay. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
