TUPELO - Mattie Van Barnes, 92, died Thursday, March 23, 2006. She was born Feb. 14, 1914, to the late Van and Ada Watkins in Wardell, Mo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a special friend to all who knew her. Her husband of 52 years preceded her in death on March 26, 1990.


Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Steele, Mo., with Dr. Bryant Barnes officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steele, Mo. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors of Tupelo and John W. German Funeral Home in Steele, Mo., are in charge of arrangements.


Survivors include three daughters, Cathryn Wilson and husband, Harold, Kay Martin and husband, Eddie, and Jean Kellems and husband, Tom Elmore, all of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Paula and Kelly Prather of Germantown, Tenn., Brent and Meredith Martin of Tupelo, Krissa and Bart Tittle of Oxford, Ken and Missy Wilson of Tupelo, Mara and John Ladner of Pass Christian, and Jana and Ben Eakes of Tupelo; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Vestal "Aunt Bug" Wilson of Sikeston, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Viola Watkins of Germantown, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at John W. German Funeral Home in Steele, Mo.
