Valdosta, GAMarzee Wiseman Speck, 95, of Valdosta, Ga., died Monday, October 13, 2008. She was born October 23, 1912 in Pontotoc, the daughter of Thomas Jackson and Etta Marzee Powell Wiseman. She was the last survivor of 11 children: Wilbur, Auber, Charlott, Carl, Marvin, Lacy, Claudey, Joshua (Jeff), Mary Florence, and Kenny.
Early, she was a member of the Sherman Baptist Church and continued in the Baptist faith for the remainder of her life. She moved from Mississippi to Memphis in 1944. She was a creative homemaker and proprietor of rental properties in Memphis. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, smocking, oil painting and gardening. She took delight in shopping at Stringers Nursery and the Farmers Market. She took a course from Patricia Stevens School of Modeling and modeled for John Gerbers and Goldsmiths department stores for a few years. During the big band era, she and her husband took lessons at Arthur Murray School of Dance. During the 1970s she was an active member of the Gray Panthers Organization, which promotes advocacy for the elderly. She collected funds for the American Heart Association. Her home at 3219 Cowden, in Memphis, was built in 1952, by Laferre Harris.

A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2009 at Sherman Baptist Church. Interment will be in Sherman Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Peters of Valdosta, Ga.; her son, Tom Speck of Black Mountain, N.C.; two granddaughters, Rachel Speck of Black Mountain and Sarah Isaacs of Memphis, Tenn.; 13 nieces and nephews, Jacqueline Stokes of Pontotoc, Norma Tollison of Sherman, Rosemary Sudduth of Tupelo, George Beasley of Tupelo, Bill Roy Wiseman of Southaven, Janie Pannell, of Greenwood, Lois Fulton of Audubon, Penn., Bonnie Montgomery of Clawson, Mich., Ted Wiseman of Oxford, Frances Eller of St. Louis, Mo., Allen Wiseman of Morrison, Mo., James Wiseman of Pontotoc and Lee Jack Wiseman of Sedalia, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son-in-law, Melvin Peters.
