UNION GROVE - Mary Rachel Box, 85, died Oct. 4, 2008, at her daughter's residence in Empire, Ala. after an extended illness. A Mississippi native, she was born Dec. 19, 1922, to Purd E. and Lillie Grimes Langston. She was a member of Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy. In the past, she had a home class for people unable to attend Church. She also taught and did the music and singing at the Old Country Home in Mooreville. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished home seamstress.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Union Grove Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Curtis Shelton, Rev. Curtis Sutton and Rev. Wayne Thorn officiating. Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Linda Box Lively (John) of Empire, Ala.; one grandson, Sterling Cooksey of Empire, Ala.; and one sister, Cecile Owings (Marion) of Nettleton.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Otis Box and her parents.
Pallbearers will be Eldon Grimes, Jerry Grimes, Paul Green, Ronnie Harris, Eddie Harris and Robbie Harris.
