TUPELO - Mary Alice McCarty, 82, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at her son's residence after a short illness. She was born May 8, 1925, in Lee County to James Turnage Lucas Sr. and Lydia Marham Lucas. She had lived in Lee County most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the Freewill Baptist. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to give them candy. She was the widow of W.O. McCarty.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in the Gilvo Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Charlene Estes and Earl and Peggy Bishop all of Tupelo; one son, Ken McCarty and Geri of Tupelo; one sister, Joyce Hood of Mooreville; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mattie McCarty of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Donnie McCarty; one grandson, Christopher Kenneth McCarty; and three brothers and three sisters.
Pallbearers will be Steve Estes, Bubba Estes, Shane Estes, Ken McCarty Jr., Todd McCarty, Kevin Holloway and Chad Bishop.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
