Saltillo—Mary Irene Taylor Logan passed on to her heavenly home on June 11, 2024, at her home in Saltillo after an extended illness at the age of 90. Her daughter and son were holding her hands as she passed away. She was born October 19, 1933 to James Riley Taylor Sr. and Francis Ione Chapman Taylor in Greenwood, Mississippi and raised in Sidon, Mississippi with seven brothers and sisters: Janie Cordella Taylor Potter, James Riley Taylor, Jr., Harris P. Taylor, Archie Taylor, Allen Taylor, Mardis Taylor, and Trudy Taylor.
Ms. Logan married the love of her life Roy Logan on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1956 after graduating Draughon School of Business. She worked as executive secretary for 38 years at Yahoo Valley Oil Mill. After retiring, she continued to work 21 years with her son at Strategic Wealth in Tupelo. She enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking, shopping, and watching Wheel of Fortune. She was also a member of First Baptist Church, Tupelo, MS and greatly enjoyed her Sunday School class, serving as class secretary, as she loved brightening others' day with cards.
She is survived by her three children: Debra Logan Nored of Carrollton, MS, Mary Jane Logan Collins (Daniel) of Saltillo, and John Roy Logan (Samantha) of Saltillo. She is survived by twelve grandchildren: Ashley Scott (Solon), Meagan Austin (Andy), Kelli Stainback (Andrew), Kathleen Sistrunk (Hayden), Christina Moses, Mary Hannah Hopper, Brooke Logan Thrasher (Preston), Lily Rose Logan, John Samuel Logan, Garrett Faulkner Logan, Nicholas Lorenzo Logan, Julianne Taylor Logan, and “like a grandson” Grayson Morgan. She also has eleven great-grandchildren and special family members “like a daughter” June Kent, “like a sister” Martha Taylor, numerous nieces, nephews, and family members from Mississippi to Texas. She loved visits from family, especially by grand and great grandchildren, saying they always lifted her spirits.
She was preceded in death (in November of 2023) by her husband of 67 years, her parents, and five of her siblings.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Stainback, Andy Austin, Hayden Sistrunk, Preston Thrasher, Drew Austin, Solon Scott IV, John Samuel Logan, and Garrett Logan.
Honorary pallbearers are Allen Taylor, Daniel Collins, Solon Scott III, John Kent, James Frazier, Gary Morgan, Alan Morgan, Robbie Taylor, Donnie Posey, Marcus Stroupe, and Wayne Peacock.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2024 at Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo, Mississippi with Bro. Matt Powell and Bro. Ricky Young officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Monday at Pegues, Tupelo. A private graveside service will follow at Parkway Cemetery in Kosciusko, Mississippi.
Memorials may be made to Parkgate Pregnancy Center, Tupelo, in lieu of flowers. She suggested taking flowers to your mother and as her mother said to remember, “This is Life’s dressing room.”
