TupeloMary Land, 87, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. Born in Florida October 29, 1921, to James and Grace Dear, she moved to Texas at an early age where she grew up. She served as the Librarian for the Houston, Texas public library for many years. She was the widow of E. Stuart Land. She had lived at AvonLea in Tupelo the past two years.
A memorial service for the family will be held at a later date.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Flynn and husband, Pat, of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one son, Don Land and wife, Judy, of Belden; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Land of Shattuck, Okla.; one brother, Dick Dear and wife, Patty, of St. Louis, Mo.; and six grandchildren, Jessica Mathis and husband, Philip of Tupelo, Stephanie Land of Belden, Stephen Flynn of Denver, Co., Nathan Flynn and wife, Angie, of Denver, Braden Land and wife, heather, of Nashville, and Aaron Flynn of Los Angeles, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years, E. Stuart Land; her son, Gene Land; and three brothers, Mason, Robert and James Dear.
