Mary Johnson

June 19, 1931 — October 4, 2018

Tupelo - Mary Edith Johnson, 87, went to be with Jesus Thursday, October 4, 2018, at her residence after a sudden illness. She was born and raised in Baldwyn June 19, 1931, to Edward and Rosa Morgan Rowan. She was a long-time resident of Tupelo. After 55 years of service, she retired from JC Penny. A long-time faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was affectionately referred to as "Mrs. Mary", she taught generations of children in the 2nd Grade Sunday School Class even up to last Sunday.



Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Black and her husband, Jason of Pearl; two sons, Ricky Johnson of Tupelo and Randy Johnson and his wife, Julie of Rockvale, Tennessee; two sisters, Ann Cagle of Baldwyn and Jane Walker of New Hampshire; one brother, Paul Rowan of Baldwyn; six grandchildren, Nicholas Johnson of Rockvale, Ashley Allen and her husband, Jerry, Andrew Black, Chelsea Black and her fiancé, Case Miles, Chance Black and Caleb Black all of Pearl; and three great- grandchildren, Baylee Allen, Colbie Allen and Dylan Allen.



She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Rosa Rowan;husband, Grover Johnson who died March 20, 1982; and her son, Jimmy Johnson who died in April 21, 2014.



Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2018at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.



Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 8, 2018, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Jim Yates officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.



Pallbearers will be Nicholas Johnson, Andrew Black, Chance Black, Caleb Black, Jerry Allen and Case Miles.
