MARY NELLE HOLLAWAY Birmingham Ridge - Mary Nelle Wages Hollaway, 76, died Sunday, March 23, 2014, at her home in the Birmingham Ridge Community after a short illness. She was born in the Furrs Community March 15, 1938, to Luke Wilder and Allie Susan Rogers Wages. She was raised in the Furrs Community and later in the Bissell Community where she had lived most of her life. She was a graduate of Itawamba Junior College and while there was named Miss IJC. May 31, 1958, she married Tom Hollaway, and together they began building a life time of memories. Earlier in her life she worked as a school secretary at Tupelo High School. Most of her working life however was spent serving as bookkeeper with her husband's business, Hollaway Paint Contractors. She loved her family and cherished the time spent with them. One of her great joys in recent years was caring for her pet Dachshund Haywire. A devoted and faithful Christian, she took great pleasure in studying and sharing God's Word. Prior to moving to the Birmingham Ridge Community eight years ago, she had been a longtime member of Bissell Baptist Church. After moving, she became a member of Birmingham Ridge Baptist Church. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Bobby Holland officiating. Burial will be in White Zion Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her husband of fifty-five years, Tom Hollaway; her two children, Michele Hollaway and Dick Hollaway (Connie) all of Birmingham Ridge; and one sister, Jo Ann Burleson (Ben) of Bissell. Pallbearers will be Randy Rogers, Christopher Hollaway, Ben Burleson, Pat Burleson and Robert Frederick. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat O'Neal and Robert Davidson. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the funeral home.
