Mary Cooke Fisher

June 29, 1922 — March 3, 2011

Tupelo - Mary Cooke Fisher, 88, went home to her Lord Thursday, March 3, 2011, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. A lifelong resident of Tupelo, she was born June 29, 1922, the daughter of Walter and Coy Thomas. She was a graduate of Tupelo High School and after putting her children through college, she furthered her own education. On August 18, 1974, she graduated from The University of Mississippi where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education and then on May 9, 1976, earned her Masters of Library Science degree. She was a retired librarian for the Tupelo Public Schools, working at Milam Jr. High, Tupelo High, and Rankin Elementary Schools. She was a member of First Baptist Church for over 80 years and served as a Sunday School teacher for 30 years. Her life was her testimony by the way she lived it.

Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Rick Ball officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.

Survivors include her son, Michael D. Cooke (Kathy) of Iuka; her daughter, Susan Cooke Couch of Florence, Ala.; her grandchildren, Kathryn Taylor Short, Mary Amanda Godwin (John), Emily Arden Cooke; her great-grandchildren, Ethan Short, Evie Godwin and Jack Godwin.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Marvin D. Cooke; and her husband of 22 years, Robert David Fisher.

Pallbearers will be Clark Adams, John Adams, Dick Daugherty, Andy Lawhon, Jim Collins, and Jerry Davis.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. and 2 p.m. to service time Sunday Saturday, at the funeral home.
