Mary Dickerson

June 28, 1921 — March 2, 2009

Tupelo - Mary Elizabeth Dickerson, 87, died Monday, March 2, 2009, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A New Albany native, she was born June 28, 1921, to Ellis J. and Jenny Black Fitzgerald. In 1938 she graduated from New Albany High School. She was married to Dr.William M. "Dub" Dickerson, who died November 11, 1995. Along with her husband, she was active in the Mississippi Optometric Association. She also participated in her children's school and community functions, serving as a Cub Scout, Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as a longtime children's Sunday School teacher and nursery worker.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Tom Groome and the Rev. Ron Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Trapp and husband, Wendell, of Corinth, and Janice Woodard and husband, Vaughn, of Tupelo; one son, Dr. Bill Dickerson, Jr. and wife, Lori, of Tupelo; eight grandchildren, Bobby Bratton and wife, Kimela, of Tupelo, Lauren Trapp Barnett and husband, Wesley, of Memphis, Trey Trapp of Tupelo, Alan Trapp of Oxford, Melissa Dickerson McDuffie and husband, Jason, of Milford, IA, Joan Dickerson of Tupelo, Bill Dickerson III of Tupelo, and Ashley Woodard Pfahler and husband, Josh, of Baldwyn; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Katherine "Kaki" Boatner of Tupelo; two half-brothers, Ellis Boyd Fitzgerald and Bob Fitzgerald; a host of nieces and nephews; her caregiver, Kristy Scruggs of Nettleton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, Bobby Fitzgerald.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Bobby Bratton, Trey Trapp, Alan Trapp, Bill Dickerson III, Wesley Barnett, and Jason McDuffie

Honorary Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, A.J. Bratton and Spencer Bratton.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
