MARY SUE BROOKS Tupelo - Mary Sue Brooks, born December 6, 1927, passed away at The Leeper House of the Green Houses of Traceway Manor on March 11, 2013, at the age of 85. She married Lawrence Wayne Brooks on November 9, 1952, and was a member of Sherman Baptist Church where she was active in WMU and served as Church Treasurer and one of the Church hostesses. She worked at Reed's Shoe Department and with her husband owned Lyle's Shoe Store in Tupelo, MS before retiring from Nephrology and Hypertension Associates in February of 1997. Mrs. Brooks is survived by one sister, Olivia Howell of Gaston, MS, three children, L. Darwin Brooks of Belden, MS, Dennis W. Brooks and wife, Kathy of Batesville, AR, and Cheryl Brooks Ware and husband, Jeff, of Tupelo, MS. Five grandchildren: Andrea Brooks Torrence and husband, Jason, of Conway, AR, Wesley Brooks and wife, Kelsey, of Batesville, AR, Jenny Ware, Jessica Ware and Jared Ware of Tupelo, MS. Mrs. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Brooks, her father and mother, George Darwin and Blanche Sewell Darwin, two sisters, Mildred Whitten and Georgia Williams, and one brother, Jesse Darwin. She always loved her husband's family as her own and her many friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm. Wednesday night at Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo with service at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 with Rev. Gowan Ellis, one of her former pastors, officiating. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Brooks' nephews, Walter Howell, Bill Howell, Jerry Smith, Tony Williams, George Whitten and Walter Billingsley. Memorials may be made to Sherman Baptist Church, Sherman, MS 38869.
