MARY LOU CUNNINGHAM
Auburn - Mary Lou Cunningham, 83, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a long illness. A native of Saltillo, she was born Sept. 2, 1922, to the late Eddy and Leatha Robinson Davis. She lived in Lee County all her life, including the last 21 years in the Auburn community. Earlier in her life, she did laundry and ironing for the public. She was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. She enjoyed making bead necklaces, working jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with her many grandchildren and children.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Joe Holcomb and the Rev. Kerry Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery west of Shannon. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Helen Williams of Tupelo, Jane Rodgers and husband, Kenneth, of Verona, and Carolyn Kelly and husband, Charles, and Mamie Sheffield, all of Auburn; one sister, Dell Hill of Arkansas; one brother, William Tal Davis of Saltillo; 12 grandchildren, Sandy Lyles and husband, J.D., Shelia Mulligan and husband, Robert, Sharon Gillen and husband, Daniel, Angel Nanney and husband, Bobby, Betty Wiley, Gerald Sheffield and wife, Brenda, Michael Sheffield, Greg Sheffield and wife, Tabitha, Lawrence Kingsley and wife, Melissa, James Ray Williams and wife, Janet, James Junior Williams and Curtis Rodgers; 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, five stepgreat-grandchildren, eight stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Cunningham, on Oct. 16, 1984; her parents; one daughter, Mary Frances Cunningham; one sister, Frances Powell; two brothers, Charlie and Paul Davis; one grandson, Orville Rodgers; four sons-in-law, James T. Williams, George Kingsley, Jim Patterson and Jerry Sheffield.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Lyles, Joseph Lyles, Kenneth Williams, Brandon Sheffield, Bradley Mulligan, J.C. Kingsley, Andrew Nanney, Josh Rodgers, Curtis Junior Rogers and Tom Wiley.
Her grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will continue from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service
