Martha Jo Spradling

MARTHA JO SPRADLING Tupelo - Martha Jo Spradling, 86, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House. A life-long resident of Tupelo, MS, she was born December 18, 1927. Her parents were Ada Page Carney and Roy C. Carney Martha was a faithful Christian with a love for volunteering. She was awarded North Mississppi Medical Center Volunteer of the Year in 2005 because of her beaming smile and her enthusiasm and care for others. In November of 2012, she was presented an award in recognition of service and volunteerism for donating over ten thousand hours of service at the North Mississippi Medical Center since 1991. She was a true and meaningful star within the hospital changing the world one visitor at a time. Although, Martha worked at Reed's Department Store, McGrath & Rasberry and the Verona Baptist Church, she was first and foremost a wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest love in life were her grandchildren and the time she spent with them. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and her flowers. She was an active member of Oak Hill Methodist Church in Saltillo. Survivors include her three children, Michael E. Spradling, Barbara Beane (Jim) and Carol Palmer all of Tupelo; nine grandchildren, Todd Spradling (Debbie) of Madison, Kateri Shirley (Mike) of Garland, Texas, Dustin Spradling of Saltillo, Jim Beane, II of South Lake Tahoe, Jordan Beane (Amber) of Saltillo, Betsy Beane of Tupelo, Mandy Netadj (Mahyar) of Starkville, Jake Palmer of Tupelo and Caleb Palmer of Tupelo; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Ila Greer (Espie) of Saltillo; two sisters-in-law, Tommie McCarthy (Charlie) of Fulton and Lurleen Comer (Durell) of Mantachie; a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jiggs Spradling and her parents. A celebration of her life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2014, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Donny Riley officiating. A graveside will follow at Tupelo Memorial Park. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be John's Sunday School Class of Oak Hill Methodist Church of Saltillo. Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at W. E. Pegues, 535 W. Jefferson Street, Tupelo, MS 38804. Memorials may be made to Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 1328 CR 885, Saltillo, MS 38866.
