Martha Janis Franks Cherry

Saltillo- Martha Janis Franks Cherry, 77, passed away August 1, 2018 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born in Saltillo March 2, 1941 to Henry Grady and Georgia Horton Franks.

At the early age of seven years old, she dedicated her life to her Lord and Savior at First Baptist Church in Saltillo. She taught Sunday School, worked with the Senior Adult Ministries, and for many years, utilized her musical talents as the church’s pianist and organist. She and her husband, Bill, later joined First United Methodist Church in Saltillo, where they continued working in the Senior Adult Ministries until Bill’s death in 2012. She retired from the United States Postal Service in Saltillo with over 32 years of dedicated service.

She leaves behind two sons, Craig Cherry and his wife, Angie of Mooreville and Dave Cherry and his wife, Debbie of New Albany; five grandchildren, Brandon Cherry and his wife Meagan of Blue Springs, Lauren Cherry Dendy and her husband, Russell of Ridgeland, Will Cherry and his wife, Hanna, Ben Cherry and Matt Cherry all of New Albany; three great-grandchildren, Wyatt Whitley Cherry, Lyla Mae Cherry and Collins Elizabeth Dendy; and one sister, Faye Pyle of Hamilton, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bill Cherry, her parents, and one brother, Fred Franks.

Services honoring her life will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 at First United Methodist Church in Saltillo with Rev. Tim Green officiating. Burial will be in Saltillo Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2018 at W.E. Pegues, Saltillo and 12 p.m. until service time at the church.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brandon Cherry, Will Cherry, Ben Cherry, Matt Cherry, Russell Dendy and her nephew, Tommy Franks.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Cherry’s personal caregivers to whom the family would like to extent their sincerest gratitude.
