The Furrs Community - Mary Ann Griffin, 71, passed away Tuesday, August 3, 2015 at New Albany Health and Rehabilitation after a lengthy illness. She was born to Wilburn and Marie Brock Wheeler on October 18, 1943 and raised in the Tater Hills Community. Mary married Carl Griffin in 1961 and they were married 39 years prior to his death July 23, 2000. Earlier in her life she lived in the Tupelo area, then Belden for 10 years before moving to the Furrs Community where she had been a resident for the past 39 years. She was a wonderful cook and loved cooking for her friends and family. Mary was a caring and selfless individual throughout her life and always placed others before herself. She loved her cats and gospel music. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Tupelo. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Sammy Raper officiating. Burial will be in Priceville Cemetery. She is survived by one daughter, Melissa Ann Ramey (Jeff) of the Peaceful Valley Community; two sons, Joe Allen Griffin and Roger Dale Griffin (Tammy) of the Furrs Community; five grandchildren, Jeremy Holland (Jessica) of Pontotoc, Emily Griffin of the Furrs Community, Cody Keith (Callie) of New Albany, Brandon Coward and Amberly Ramey both of the Peaceful Valley Community. She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband. Visitation will be from 5 until 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jeremy Holland, Cody Keith and Brandon Coward. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com .
