MARGIE SMITH Tupelo - Marjorie Mae "Margie" Smith, 86, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born in Lee County on October 30, 1927, to William Joshua and Willie Mae Burleson Simmons. Early in her life, she worked as a telephone operator, and later at Kuhn's Department Store and NMMC. Margie enjoyed reading, going to the mountains and hiking. She especially enjoyed travelling and had visited several different places. For thirty-one years, she was a faithful member of East Main Church of Christ. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Graveside services will follow at Lee Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters, Rita Payne of Saltillo and Susan Reed (Jerry) of Tupelo; one son, Tim Smith (Regina) of Saltillo; nine grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; two special friends, who were a God send to her, Clay and Daletha Richey. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Troy Smith in 1999; one granddaughter, Wendy Benson; one brother; James Otho Simmons; and one great-great-granddaughter, Avaleigh Tutor. Pallbearers will be Joe Reed, Brandon Smith, Daniel Huggins, Kyle Watts, J. J. Reed and Justin Norris. Ethan Benefield will serve as honorary pallbearer. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2014, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
