MARGARITA GOMEZ PHILLIPS
Tupelo - Margarita Gomez Phillips, 96, died Monday, February 12, 2007, at The Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. She was born April 5, 1910 in Campeche, Mexico to the late Francisco and Margarita Llovera Gomez. She was married to the late James Phillips. She came to the U.S. in 1932 after completing her education in Mexico as a teacher. She entered St. Margaret's Hospital in Montgomery, Ala., where she graduated in April, 1935, as a registered nurse. She was known for her beautiful yard and was a long time member of the Jackson Heights Garden Club. She was also a charter member of the Order of Polka Dots Mardi Gras Society and active in the League of Women Voters.
A Memorial Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors in Tupelo, Miss. is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her sister, Hilda G. Wynne of Mobile, Ala.; her nieces, Helen Neese (Herman) of Mobile, Ala., and Margaret Spivey (Ron)of Tupelo, Miss.; her nephews, John J. Wynne of Mobile and Pepe Gomez (Lupita) of Mexico City, Mexico; and 13 great-nieces and nephews; 17 great-great-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-great nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Angela McCraw; two brothers, Frank and Pepe Gomez; and a niece, Peggy Chlarson.
