Margaret Williamson
TUPELO - Margaret McCurley Williamson went to be with her Lord on September 24, 2005, at her home in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was born September 29, 1951, in Jackson, Mississippi, to William Caston McCurley and Elizabeth Smith McCurley. She spent her childhood in Monticello, Mississippi, and Jackson, Mississippi, and graduated cum laude from Belhaven College in 1972 with a degree in English. She married Buddy Williamson in 1971 and spent the next nine years in Jackson during her husband's medical training. After moving to Tupelo in 1980 to begin her husband's surgical practice, she was a very active community volunteer serving as chairman of the Charity Ball for Junior Auxiliary and was a member of the Medical Auxiliary. She was the chairman of the Celebration Village for Sanctuary Hospice House and served on the Board of Directors for Sanctuary Hospice House. She served on the Board of Directors of the Tupelo Ballet. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tupelo and was actively involved in many aspects of her church.
Above all, she was devoted to her faith and her family.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill McAlilly and the Rev. Lowell Walker officiating, with private graveside services. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Dr. J.W. "Buddy" Williamson; her mother, Elizabeth, and stepfather, Donald H. Stormo; her daughter, Elizabeth Williamson Davis and her husband, Patton; her son, James Alexander Williamson II; her son Andrew Caston Williamson and his wife, Kelly; her daughter, Rachel Mills Williamson; her grandchildren, Charles Patton III, Margaret Lee and Williamson Cutcliff Davis; three stepbrothers and a stepsister.
She is preceded in death by her father, William Caston McCurley and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.P. Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Leon McCurley.
Pallbearers are Arthur Doty, Dr. Barney Guyton, Dr. Jimmy Hamilton, Jerry Long, Jimmy Long, Dr. Mitch Massey, Bill Morgan, Dr. Fred Mothershed, Jim Spencer and Dr. Buddy Wikle.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested a donation to the Sanctuary Hospice House, P.O. Box 192, Tupelo, MS 38802.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Wesley Hall at First United Methodist Church.
