Tupelo - Margaret Dyer Mattox died Monday, July 14, 2008, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Tupelo native and long time resident, she was born December 15, 1921 to Andrew Jackson and Gladys Cooley Dyer. She worked for Dr. Nash as a dental assistant during high school. In Nashville, Tenn., she worked for International Harvester as a billing clerk and during World War II, while living in Platsburg, N.Y., she worked for the U.S. Army in supply. She was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and cooking. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Verona.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Mr. Sammy Lansdell and Rev. Mark Cayson officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include two sons, R.M. "Bob" Mattox and wife, Connie, of Fairhope, Ala. and W.P. "Bill" Mattox and wife, Julie, of Nettleton; four grandchildren, Mark Mattox and wife, Tammy of Fairhope, Ala., Melissa Harmon and husband, Tony, of Meridian, Jon Mattox of Fairhope, and Chris Mattox and wife, Teri, of Nettleton; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, W.C. "Billy" Mattox.
Pallbearers will be Mark Mattox, Chris Mattox, Jon Mattox, Tony Harmon, Paul Smith, and Bobby Williams.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Pete Armstrong and Glen Payne.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
