Nettleton - Margaret Dye, 88, died Wednesday, September 16, 2009, at her residence after an extended illness. A native of Birmingham, Ala, she was born February 28, 1921 to Charles Gates and Carrie Hingle Moreland. She grew up in Talladega, Ala. and attended Jacksonville State Teachers College in Jacksonville, Ala. She married Arvad Dye on December 24, 1941, and they settled in Nettleton in 1957. She worked keeping the books for her husband's business, Dye Contruction. For 30 years, she served as a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and taking her daily three mile walks. She was recognized for winning her age division at the Gumtree 10K. She was a longtime member of Nettleton United Methodist where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She also published the church bulletin for her home church as well as Shiloh United Methodist Church for many years.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Nettleton United Methodist Church with Rev. David Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Arvad L. Dye of Nettleton; two daughters, Jane Spraberry of Abilene, Tex. and Judy Harrison (Perry)of Blue Springs; one son, Ken Dye (Phyllis) of Brewer; one brother, Jimmy Moreland (Nell) of Mobile, Ala.; four grandchildren, Jennifer Hinds (James) of Glen Cove, Tex., David Hatfield (April) of Hawley, Tex, Stephanie Putt (Steven) of Oxford, and Jacob Arvad Dye of Brewer; five step-grandchildren, Vance Harrison (Dena) of Heber Springs, Ark., Chris Harrison (Sharon) of Germantown, Tenn., and Tripp Harrison (Heather) of Oxford, Micah Monaghan (Courtney) of Pelham, Ala., Jessica Ian Monaghan of Brewer; 15 great-grandchildren; her caregivers, Curtis Hilt, Christy Hilt, Mary Kennedy, Jimmie Hendrix, and Josephine Williams
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Elizabeth Hannigan and Dottie Miller; and one brother, Bud Moreland; one grandson, Jared Dye.
Pallbearers will be Robert Allen Godfrey, Curtis Hilt, Jimmy Hinds, David Hatfield, Jake Dye, Vance Harrison, Chris Harrison, and Tripp Harrison
Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of the Disciples Sunday School Class.
Visitation will be 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.
