Mt. Vernon " Margaret Cochran, 58, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at her residence after an extended illness. A native and lifelong resident of the Mt. Vernon Community, she was born December 4, 1949, to the late Ross and Cora Robison Gambrell. In 1967, she graduated from Belden High School before attending Itawamba Junior College and Mississippi State University. She married Buddy Cochran December 10, 1971. She worked as a switchboard operator for Hancock Fabrics, MTD Products, and Action Industries. She enjoyed cooking for her family and collecting antique furniture. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she served as pianist for 30 years.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. W.E. "Bill" Mason and Rev. Jim Manley officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery near Belden.
Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Buddy Cochran of the Mt. Vernon Community; two sons, Lindsey Cochran and wife, Jessica, and Lewis Cochran, all of Mt. Vernon; one grandson, Ross Cochran; two brothers, Dude Gambrell and wife, Brenda, and Harold Gambrell and wife, Linda, all of Mt. Vernon; a special friend, Brenda Clayton of Nettleton.
Pallbearers will be Bobby McCarty, Jerry Wise, Lamar Hunter, Sammy Rice, Tommy Bradsher, and Mike McCraw.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
