MANELL SUMMERS
AUBURN COMMUNITYManell Summers, 95, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A life long Lee county resident, she was born January 6, 1910 to the late Frank and Maggie Cain Monaghan. She had lived in the Tupelo area and had been a resident of the Auburn community for the last 30 years. She was a homemaker and active in the Baptist church. Mrs. Summers enjoyed coking and baking cakes for the public, and was very active in the Auburn Civic Club. In her early years, she and her husband owned and operated 344 Cab Company and Horton Caf in Tupelo.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of WE Pegues with Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean Christian of Auburn, and two sisters, Annie B. Watts and Ruby Cother, both of Tupelo; one granddaughter, Chris Murphy of Tupelo, Three great-grandchildren, Michelle Rosen of Horn Lake, Melissa Murphy of Saltillo, and Crystal Threadgill of Birmingham; four great-great-grandchildren, J.T. Posey Jr., Meredith Christian Posey, Brenton Posey, all of Horn Lake, and Jacquelyn Gillean of Saltillo.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Birl Horton in 1950, and her second husband, Charlie Summers in 1984.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Christian, Kalem Threadgill, Jerry Rickels, Buddy Spann, Billy Watts, and Ray Monaghan.
Visitation will be 5 until 8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home on Jefferson Street.
