Tupelo - Mamie E. Perkins, 90, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Cedars Heathcare Center after an extended illness. She was born August 18, 1917 in Arkansas to Rufus and Nellie Betts Waldrip. She was a nurse for many years, working at the Oxford and Batesville Hospitals and retiring from the North Mississippi Medical Center in 1984. She was a dedicated Christian mother who worked hard all of her life. She enjoyed quilting, chroceting and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church.
Services will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters, Margie Renick, and husband, Delma, of Tupelo, and Carolyn Mize of Oxford; two sons, John Larry Perkins of Lufkin, Tex. and Phillip Perkins and wife, Dianne, of Pollok, Tex.; one brother, Ray Coaten; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren..
She was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Frances Mitchell and husband, Glynn, Betty Lee (Pat) Paradise, and Mary Ann Perkins; one sister, Nannie Mae Bray; one brother, Raymond Coaten; and her husband, John Perkins.
Pallbearers will be Larry Loden, David Renick, Jimmy Renick, Bubba Mize, Jerry Mize, and Roger Renick.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
