Maggie Evans

Saltillo - Maggie C. Evans, 93, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks in Verona after a lengthy illness. A native of McNairy County, Tenn., she was born February 24, 1918 to Bill and Lora Huggins Curtis. As a teenager she moved to the Lee County area where she has resided since. She worked as a seamstress for a number of area garment industry. She loved taking care of the flowers in her yard and enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Marvin Murphy officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Clayton (Joe) and Jo Lindsey (Morris), all of Saltillo; one sister, Mae Ahlberg of Grayslake, Il.; six grandchildren, Brad Clayton (Jeni) of Shannon, Rob Clayton and Mindi Goodson (Larry), all of Saltillo, Jesse Steward of Tupelo, Carrol Lindsey (Mika) of Bentonville, Ark, Justin Lindsey of Dallas, Tex.; and six great-grandchildren, Nikki Gillentine (Jamie), Katie, Jack and Carson Clayton, Jacob Underwood, and Joleigh Goodson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marlin T. Evans who died July 16, 1968; three brothers, Eulis, Bill and Charlie Curtis; two sisters, Ruby Smith and Bertha Lou Williams; and her granddaughter, Amy Clayton. Pallbearers will be Brad Clayton, Rob Clayton, Jesse Steward, Larry Goodson, Jamie Gillentine and Jacob Underwood. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Saltillo Funeral Home.
