Madge Crone

Tupelo - Madelyn (Madge) Romona Byerly Crone, 81, died Friday, August 27, 2010, at Community Hospice at Darlington Oaks after an extended illness. A native of Perrysville, Ohio, she was born February 1, 1929 to Chester and Nellie Freeman Byerly. She was a graduate of Lucas High School in Lucas, Ohio, and was valedictorian of her senior class. She worked at Sears for eight years and as the manager of the North Mississippi Medical Center gift shop for 15 years. She enjoyed sailing, crossword puzzles, shells, and sewing. She loved her family and enjoyed special family gatherings each week until her health failed. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Grey Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Calvin L. Crone of Tupelo; her children, Steve Crone (JoAnn) of Nettleton, Greg Crone (Jerry Lou) of Guntown, Denise Carnathan and Rick Crone (Pam), all of Tupelo; eight grandchildren, Tony Crone of Tupelo, Jenny and Katie Crone of Guntown, Scott and Lisa Carnathan of Tupelo, Christy Carnathan of Nashville, and Neil and Caleb Crone of Tupelo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a grandson, Kevin Crone.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Bradley, Tony, Crone, Neil Crone, Caleb Crone, Tommy Moran, and Stuart Ponds.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Tupelo Chapter of the Alzheimer's Society.
