MADELINE LANIER THOMPSON Thompson, Madeline Lanier, 88, died Saturday, January 26, 2013 after a long illness. A native of Soperton, GA, and longtime resident of Newton, she is survived by her sons Tommy (Penny) and Lanier (Jarie); grandchildren Gracie Menetre (Bailey) and Laura Thompson (Yuri Livshitz), Jesse, Ruddy, and Jack Thompson; great-grandsons George and Pate Menetre and great-granddaughter Esther Livshitz; and many well-loved nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Tommy Thompson. Madeline was a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She married Tommy Thompson in 1947. She and her husband lived in Newton from 1949 to 1953. They moved to Newton permanently in 1961. Madeline was an avid gardener, flower show judge, and reader and enthusiastically involved with the Newton United Methodist Church. Private family services will be held at graveside in Soperton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Newton United Methodist Church. The family would like to think Susie and Eddie Gaines for their love and care.
